Setting up your restaurant

What this is for

Your restaurant's identity and the formats it works in. These settings appear on receipts, on your customer ordering site, in emails, and in every report — so it's worth getting them right before you build your menu.

Before you start

Have your logo file ready (a square image works best) and know your currency and timezone.

Setting your details

  1. Go to Settings › Restaurant Settings.
  2. Fill in your Restaurant Name. This is what customers see, and what appears on receipts.
  3. Upload your Restaurant Logo.
  4. Add your address and phone number.
  5. Save.

Currency

Go to Settings › Currency Settings.

Currency is more than a symbol. You control:

  • which currency you trade in,
  • whether the symbol sits before or after the amount,
  • the thousands and decimal separators,
  • how many decimal places to show.

Set this once and every price, bill, receipt and report follows it. Nothing in Restodesk is hard-coded to dollars.

tip

Because this guide can't know your settings, it writes prices as plain numbers. What you actually see will be in your own format.

Timezone, date and time

Go to Settings › Time Zone for your timezone, and the app settings for your Date Format and Time Format.

Get the timezone right first. It decides what "today" means on the dashboard and in every report. A wrong timezone is the most common cause of "these numbers are on the wrong day".

Taxes

Go to Settings › Tax Settings to add your taxes.

Each tax has a name and a percentage. You then choose per menu item whether its price includes tax or has tax added to it, and which taxes apply. See Adding menu items.

Good to know

  • If a change doesn't seem to take effect, sign out and back in. Your currency, date and time formats are stored when you sign in, so a fresh sign-in picks up the new values.
  • Your restaurant name and logo also feed the customer ordering site and your receipts. You don't set them separately in three places.
