Frequently asked questions
Why don't my sales match the calendar day?
Because Restodesk counts a business day, not a calendar day. If your service runs from 6pm to 2am, everything sold after midnight still belongs to the night it started. That's set by your operating shifts, and every report follows it.
If a report looks wrong by a few hours, check your operating shifts before anything else.
I changed a setting and nothing happened
Some settings are read once when you sign in. Sign out and back in — that clears the stored copy and picks up the new value. This affects your currency, date and time formats, and anything to do with your branch.
Can I use Restodesk on a tablet or phone?
Yes. It runs in a normal web browser, so any reasonably modern tablet, laptop or phone works. The POS is designed for a tablet held in landscape or a touchscreen till. There's nothing to install.
What happens if the internet goes down mid-service?
Keep taking orders. The POS stores them on the device and sends them up as soon as the connection returns. You'll see an offline indicator while it's queuing. Don't refresh the page or close the browser while orders are still waiting to sync.
Can two people use the same till at once?
Two people can be signed in on two devices, and both will see the same live orders. If you want each till tracked separately — its own sales figures and its own drawer — that's the Multiple Terminals add-on.
A guest wants to pay separately. What do I do?
Split the bill on the POS before taking payment. You can split by item or by an even share, and each part takes its own payment method and prints its own receipt.
How do I stop selling something that's run out?
Mark the item unavailable on Menu › Menu Items. It disappears from the POS, the QR menu and the kiosk straight away. It stays in your menu, so you can switch it back on tomorrow.
If you have the Stock & Recipes add-on, items can go unavailable on their own as the ingredients run out.
Someone rang up the wrong thing — can I undo it?
Yes, and how depends on when you catch it:
- Before it's sent to the kitchen — remove the line from the bill.
- After it's sent — remove the item from the kitchen ticket. It's logged, and it shows up in the Removed KOT Item report.
- After it's paid — refund it, against one of your refund reasons.
Your role may need a manager's approval for some of these.
Why can't I see a screen this guide describes?
Either it's an add-on that isn't on your plan, or your role doesn't have permission for it. See Why can't I see this screen?.
