Glossary

Restaurant words that mean something specific inside Restodesk.

Add-on — a part of Restodesk that isn't in every plan. Add-on pages in this guide say so at the top. See What's included.

Area — a part of your floor plan that holds tables: "Terrace", "Ground floor", "Private room". Tables belong to an area, and areas belong to a branch.

Branch — one physical location. Each branch has its own tables, staff, stock, shifts and reports, all under one login.

Business day — your trading day, which is not necessarily the calendar day. If service runs to 2am, sales after midnight still count towards the night that started at 6pm. Set by your operating shifts. Every report uses it.

Cover — one guest. A table booked for four is four covers.

Delivery executive — the person who takes deliveries out. They sign in to their own app, not the back office.

Due payment — money owed to you on an order that has been served but not fully paid.

Folio — a hotel guest's running bill. Room service and restaurant charges can be added to it and settled at check-out. Part of the Hotel & Rooms add-on.

KOT — kitchen order ticket — the kitchen's copy of an order, printed or on screen. One order can produce several, one per station.

Menu — a named collection of items, e.g. "Lunch" or "Weekend brunch". You can have several, and items can appear on more than one.

Modifier — a choice or extra on an item: a size, a cooking temperature, an added side. Modifiers live in modifier groups, and can carry their own price.

Operating shift — a named block of trading hours for a branch, e.g. "Dinner, 18:00–02:00". Shifts define the business day.

Order type — how the order is fulfilled: dine-in, takeaway, pickup or delivery. You can add your own. The type decides which steps the order moves through.

POS — point of sale — the till screen your staff take orders on.

QR ordering — the guest scans the code on their table, sees your menu on their phone, and orders without waiting for staff.

Role — a named set of permissions, e.g. Waiter, Chef, Branch Head. Every staff member has one, and it decides what they can see and do.

Service charge — a percentage added to the bill automatically, separate from tax and from tips.

Shift handover — counting the drawer and passing it to the next person. Part of the Cash Register add-on.

Stamp card — a loyalty scheme where a number of qualifying orders earns a reward. Part of the Loyalty add-on.

Superadmin — whoever operates the Restodesk platform itself, across all restaurants. That's not a restaurant role, and it isn't covered by this guide.
