Appearance
What this is for
The theme controls how Restodesk looks — to your staff, and to guests on your ordering site and kiosk.
Under Settings › Theme.
What you can change
- Your colour, applied across buttons, highlights and accents.
- Your logo, shown in the app, on receipts and on your customer site.
- Typography, where font control is available on your plan.
- Light and dark, which staff can also switch per device.
Choosing a colour
Use your actual brand colour, not something close to it. The whole point is that a guest arriving at your ordering site recognises it as yours.
Two practical warnings:
Check it's readable. A pale yellow or a light pastel that looks lovely on a wall becomes unreadable text on a white screen. If your brand colour is light, you'll want a darker version of it for text and buttons — the fill and the text can be different shades of the same colour.
Check it in both light and dark mode. A colour that works on white can vanish on near-black. Staff use dark mode more than you'd expect, particularly on evening shifts.
If you're not sure, look at the button labels and the links. If you're squinting, so is everyone else, all day.
Your logo
Upload a version that works small. It appears in a navigation bar, on a thermal receipt and on a phone screen — none of which flatter a detailed logo.
- Simple shapes survive. Fine lines and small text don't.
- Check it on a receipt. Thermal printing is black and white and low resolution. A logo that's a grey smudge is worse than no logo.
- Transparent background, so it sits on light and dark alike.
Typography
Where font control is on your plan, you can change the typeface Restodesk uses.
Worth a moment of restraint. The people looking at this screen all day are your staff, and a distinctive display font that's charming on a menu is tiring in a table of numbers. Keep display choices for your customer-facing surfaces and leave the working screens plain.
Where your branding actually shows
| Surface | What guests see |
|---|---|
| Customer ordering site | Logo, colour, restaurant name — see The customer ordering site |
| Kiosk | The welcome screen carries your name and branding |
| Receipts | Logo and name, if enabled — see Receipts and printers |
| Emails | Your restaurant name and details |
| Customer displays | Your branding at the till |
The back office is for staff. The rest is your shopfront, and it's worth more attention.
Good to know
- Theme settings are per restaurant, so all branches share them.
- Light and dark mode is a per-device preference. Staff choose their own.
- Your restaurant name and contact details come from your restaurant settings, not here.
- Theme Setting is its own permission. See What each role can do.
